A BOY WHO HAS NO INTEREST TO READ
by Elmer Andin-O
July, 1996

When Bobby was six years old, he was sent to a public school by his parents.  Unfortunately, Bobby had no interest in learning to read and he could not write well.  His parents were discouraged to send Bobby back to the school the following year since he had shown very little progress.

Bobby’s parents heard about the Mission School which was opened in their village.  They asked for some information about the school.  The mother decided to send Bobby to the Mission School just to pass the time since there was no fee to pay.  Although it is not a formal school, she thought perhaps Bobby should attend the Mission School.

The classes began and the Student Missionaries taught the students some songs, reading, writing, and some other activities that cultivated the interest of Bobby.  Bobby amazed himself as he became eager to read.  First he mastered two letter words, then four letters.  His excitement increased as he learned to read more complicated words.  His parents are also happy to hear him reading the notes Bobby has taken in class.  He also reads some simple books.

Then Bobby learned to read some Bible passages.  Now he is regularly attending a nightly Bible Study class in the cottage of the Student Missionaries.

One day, Bobby will be able to read very well.  Perhaps he will read the Bible to his parents and they will be able to learn about the love of God through this boy who had no interest in reading until challenged by the Student Missionaries.
